Product description

Thomas and his friends are in trouble when evil Diesel #10 tries to dominate the others.

Thomas, as anyone familiar with the eponymous, wildly popular TV series knows, is a very useful engine, and never more so than in his first theatrical release, which was a modest box-office success. On a tank filled with little more than pluck, determination, and goodwill, Thomas sets out full steam ahead on a danger-fraught mission to help his friend Mr. Conductor. The conductor's stash of magic gold dust has run out, leaving him stranded on the Island of Sodor with Junior, his flaky cousin, and Lily, a little girl enlisted to lift her grandfather out of a funk on nearby Muffle Mountain. When Thomas bravely chugs beyond his hometown tracks' buffers with Lily aboard, he's transported to Muffle Mountain's secret railway and to Lady, a long-lost steamer whose legendary engine makes her more powerful than Diesel, the train-yard bully. Together, Thomas and Lady lead Diesel on a chase that causes a bridge to collapse, taking the dastardly Diesel down with it. Most impressive about the movie is its marquee names: Alec Baldwin works magic as the dutiful worrywart Mr. Conductor, Mara Wilson is Lily, and Peter Fonda plays the cool-looking but lugubrious Grandpa. It's a cast that'll keep put-upon parents watching, if halfheartedly. Thomas fans 5 and under, meanwhile, will wish the actors wouldn't blow so much hot air; they'll want to see their hero a bigger part in steaming up the story line. --Tammy La Gorce

« Kids love it, mom has time for chores »
The movie is not great from an adult viewpoint. However, my kids watch it again and again giving me time to do chores around the house. As a matter of fact I'm writing this review because they're watching it now and I have time to be on the computer.

« My Kids Loved This!!!!!!! »
Some of these reviews are just plain mean spirited! This is a kids movie. Loved by kids. Watched by kids. If your kid loved it? Which mine did to the tenth power x's 10!!!!!! You should give it 5 stars!!!! Which I did. Besides Alec Baldwin is a hoot in this as he is so seriously over the top.

« Child loves it...I hate it »
My child loves this movie. I would rather go to the dentist than watch this movie.

As for the children, it is a 5 star review. I give it a one star. The acting by Peter Fonda is horrible. The acting by Alex Baldwin is horrible. But there are trains..and Mr. Pinchy. Let the kids watch it...and if you are an adult..shut the door and leave.

« Poorly written, there are better Thomas DVD's than this »
I found this in the five dollar bin at Walmart, and figured it wouldn't be such a waste if I picked it up. I have two boys and they both love Thomas.

This movie is mostly "live" adult actors, with Thomas and the other trains mixed in. I find there are way too many actors in this movie that do not add anything but make the storyline harder to follow for little ones. Diesel 10 is quite scary for my 2 year old. The acting is terrible and the storyline is just awful from an adult's point of view. However, my 5 year old does like to watch this from time to time.

« Worst movie ever...but the kids love it anyway! »
I inwardly groan whenever my kids ask to watch this movie. But while my husband and I don't like it, I'm giving it 3 stars because my kids LOVE it and let's face it, we're buying this for our kids, not us. My 3-year old son wants to watch this movie again and again. He's even been known to sleep with the DVD at night!
